How a legal brief actually runs

The practice area decides part of the workflow. Most of it is the same. Whether it is a conveyancer in Cambridge or a commercial associate in Manchester, the steps stay steady.

1. Practice-aware brief

We come into the call ready. If it is conveyancing, we know the difference between residential and commercial volume. If it is family, we know which firms are Resolution and what that means for candidate fit. We will not waste your call asking the basics.

2. Salary calibration against the live market

Every shortlist is calibrated against current UK legal salary data and what we see on the desk this month. London differs from Cambridge, Glasgow differs from Cardiff, City differs from regional. If the band is low for the practice and qualification level, we say so before we start, not after the offer is rejected.

3. Vetted, ranked shortlist

Three to six candidates per brief, properly vetted, with our written notes. Right-to-work, SRA standing where applicable, qualifications, references, motivation, all checked before introduction.

4. Offer and onboarding support

We coordinate the offer, manage counter-offer pressure, line up the start date, and check in on day 7, 30 and 90.

Practice areas we deliberately do not cover

Magic Circle and Silver Circle senior associate hires sit best with sector specialists, so we point those briefs to trusted partner agencies. Same with judiciary appointments, criminal defence advocacy and barrister chambers work. We will tell you within one call if we are not the right fit.
